Shirley Green is proud to play this concert in support of Milwaukee-based dog rescue group, Canine Cupids.

"Canine Cupids' work with animals, within our community and throughout our organization, is guided by three core values: compassion, integrity and dedication.

Because every animal deserves to be loved, we feel it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes.

We strive to work with MADACC as well as other rescues and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers to create a better world for homeless pets within Milwaukee."

Drawing from a multifarious stew of music/guitar styles, Milwaukee-area musician Tom Robinson presents an eclectic mosaic of original, arranged, and improvised music through both instrumental and vocally-driven performances.

Tom has been active as a performer, composer, recording artist and music educator in the Milwaukee-metropolitan area for more than 25 years.

He currently performs regularly as a solo artist, as the guitarist/bassist of the Shirley Green Band, and as a supporting musician for various local artists and ensembles.

Milwaukee, WI 53207
(414) 481-9200 [map]
Price: $5

Join Shirley Green at Frank's Power Plant on August 23rd!
Below is more info on Joe Goodkin's acoustic, "The Odyssey" and genre-bending Milwaukee group, Paladino.

Chicago singer-songwriter Joe Goodkin will perform "The Odyssey". The Odyssey consists of 24 short songs sung by Joe while playing the acoustic guitar.  The performance is continuous and runs around 30 minutes.

Joe has been performing his unique interpretation of The Odyssey for audiences since 2003. Drawing on his Bachelor's Degree in the Classics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and his years of writing and performing original rock and acoustic music, Joe has created a 30-minute long composition for solo acoustic guitar and voice, which deconstructs the story of The Odyssey in song, invoking the spirit of the ancient Greek bards who originally brought forth the timeless stories of Odysseus and the heroes of the Trojan War.

The Odyssey was honored in 2003, 2004, and 2012 with an American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) Award.

For more info on this project, visit Joe's website,

Equally rich in meaning and melody, Paladino delivers honest, heartfelt lyrics and soaring, stirring harmonies. Their songs blend genres (indie folk, bluegrass, Americana rock), artistic influences (Chris Thile, Paul McCartney, '90s rock) and subject matter (loss, defiance, the search for connection) with poetic imagery and novelistic detail, shot through with real emotion and dynamic musicality.

Founded in late 2014 by longtime friends Mark Harrig (mandolin) and Phil Wamser (concertina/piano), the Paladino now includes new friends Matthew Webber (guitar), Weston Gritt (bass) and Chad Burgess (drums). Their collection of songs display a wide array of stylistic diversity due to each member of the band contributing their personally-written songs.

In April of 2015, Paladino finished their first demo featuring songs "War is Peace", "Strange", and "Just Like Home" which was self-produced, engineered, and recorded at Harrig's studio. Named for the Orwellian doublespeak of a no longer so far-fetched dystopia, "War is Peace" is a dark and charging Celtic epic with a haunting sing-along chorus finale. "Strange", a bluegrass/pop-inspired tune, tells a story of an emotionally bruised but beautiful young artist. The uplifting song "Just Like Home" is a soaring pop-alternative tale of a small town man finding his way in the big city while still embracing his roots.

Best Place Milwaukee
Living Room Concert Series, w/Micah Olsan - 8pm
901 W. Juneau Ave.
Milwaukee, WI 53233
414-630-1609 [map]
Price: $5

Press Release - June 13, 2014

IndieMKE presents the next concert in the Living Room Concert Series on July 10th at Best Place Milwaukee. It’s a new EP release show for Milwaukee’s Micah Olsan, with special guest - the band Shirley Green.

Doors at 7pm, music at 8, $5 cover at the door.

Micah has been an active performer in the Midwest music scene for the last five years. His diverse songwriting takes folky storytelling, interlocking guitar parts, and passionate, soaring vocals and places them smoothly on top of a funky, jazz and world-infused rhythm section. Micah's writing draws on influences from Paul Simon to Radiohead and the Talking Heads.

His eclectic guitar work was recognized in the 2010 Shepherd Express reader poll when he was nominated for best guitarist. "So many styles it'll make your head spin. " says Jamie Lee Rake of the Shepherd Express.

The music of Shirley Green is difficult to categorize into any genre.  On the band’s website, they jokingly describe it as “Experimental, atmospheric modern rock with nuanced, emotionally-unstable undertones,”  and advise that “You’ll dig it if you enjoy classically-melodic musical passages with hints of bergamot and orange peel. Probably perfect for a Living Room Concert at Best Place.

The Living Room Concert series is presented by IndieMKE, with support from KNE and Best Place Milwaukee. This show will be recorded for later broadcast on WUWM, Milwaukee Public Radio.

The Living Room Concert series was created to support original music from artists in Southeast Wisconsin. Not only does it provide a stage for original music, but it gives the audience the opportunity to listen and enjoy in an informal setting, and have the opportunity to interact with the artists.
